"Mummy, I want a cheese twist!"

"No, darling you've just had a weetabix and toast"

"But I do want one!"

"I know you do, but the answer is no"

"But Mummy the best book to read is the Bible"

*Pauses and thinks*...where is this going?

"Yes. The best book to read is the Bible but you're still not having a cheese twist"

"Oh but I do want one!

*Toddler Pauses*

"Mummy can I have more Peter Rabbit?"

"No you've just watched two episodes of Sarah and Duck!"

"But Mummy I do want Peter Rabbit!"

*sigh*

"I know you do, but the answer is no"

And so today's conversational pattern takes on a strangely cyclical feel...
